Sustainable Eco-Community in Belize
Long Caye Belize is an ecological development located on Long Caye at Lighthouse Reef. We are passionately committed to the preservation and protection of both Long Caye and its surrounding reef. As stewards of the atoll, we are a socially and fiscally responsible organization. We take a long term, holistic approach to our work, always searching for ways to improve the quality of our community and the surrounding environment through the mindful adoption of leading edge environmentally friendly technologies. We seek to demonstrate to the world the achievements possible when people, passion and technology team up with nature to create an extraordinary user experience and a sustainable ecological success.
The Long Caye Community Association takes responsibility for common areas and assets within the community. The homeowner's association is the governing body by which this is accomplished. The plans and restrictions established by Long Caye Belize/PIL are designed to protect property values. The Association’s mission at Long Caye Belize is based on sound and lasting environmental and community principles.
Common Property services are an important and a constant activity on Long Caye. Common Property services on Long Caye are comprised of those functions necessary for the effective maintenance and upkeep of the common areas and assets on Long Caye. In delivering these maintenance services, we strive to ensure compliance with Belize Law and the Long Caye Belize Eco-Guidelines. We want a safe and healthy workplace for our employees, contractors and other stakeholders, while preserving and extending the value and life of the property and assets we maintain.
The Eco-Guidelines is the encompassing document that outlines how community is built and sustained on Long Caye. It covers all human activity on the Caye including building, use and sustainability regulations and the details associated with administrative process. Parcels on Long Caye Belize are subject to master deed restrictions. Among other things, the master deed restrictions regulate the construction and modification of buildings and other improvements. Long Caye Belize and the Long Caye Community Association have a review board that regulates setbacks, building materials, appropriate usage and other matters critical for the benefit of the community. We hope to bridge the gap between the enjoyment of access and conscientious preservation of the natural environment. The goal of these Eco-Guidelines is to prove that environmental assets can be preserved, protected AND enjoyed in a fashion that actually promotes the long term health of such assets for the greater good. While human visitation to such places is inevitable; we believe the development philosophy of Long Caye will show that it can be managed sustainably.
